a piece of clothing (suspender, sleeve, strap) worn off the shoulder as a style, accident, or both.

The above image is from this episode of Larry King Live when Mr. King was interviewing Paul, Ringo, Yoko, and Olivia while they were promoting Love. It appears Larry was having trouble with his suspenders throughout this episode. This wayward fastner fell immediately after Larry had pulled it back up onto his shoulder (3:40 into the clip).

I was reminded of it while watching a video reccommended by last.fm. I don’t want to get too off topic, but I think it’s awesome that you can turn scrobbling on/off with videos that are on last.fm. I don’t know if that’s a new feature they rolled out with the redesign, but I like it.

Anyway, Leona Naess briefly sports a larry king in her video for Charm Attack. I know what you are thinking. Yes, the video did precede this episode of Larry King Live, but who is to say it didn’t happen to Larry before? Really, how long has he been wearing suspenders? Even if this was the first occurrence, Larry brought it to a national audience and the fallen suspender is a catch-all for clothing worn off the shoulder.

Comedy or Drama 1: Shoot ‘Em Up

First in a series of posts asking are you kidding? Can you guess if this is a drama or comedy? This one threw me. You can make your guess and read my thought process or just jump to the bottom for the answer. If you’ve seen this movie, you can play the next round.

Title: Shoot ‘Em Up. Are you kidding? Comedy.
Paul Giamatti. He was dyed blue in a movie before. Comedy.
Clive Owen. He always has a gun so that doesn’t really make a difference. It is written in his contract that he can’t smile in movies. That’s why he only chooses roles where his motivation is revenge. Smiling would be out of character. It would be hard to have a starring role in a comedy and not smile. Unless you can laugh while looking unhappy. Drama.
Monica Bellucci. She was in one of The Matrices and a lot of foreign films. Drama.

Paul Giamatti and blue dye were still weighing heavily on my mind, but Drama won out. What did you guess?

I was pointed over to Conan’s guest DJ spot on KCRW and his musings on Bob Dylan’s Buckets of Rain:

And there have been many times where I’ve been at a loss for words and people are saying ‘come on Conan, this is important! The show starts in an hour, what should we do?’ And I’ll say “little red wagon, little red bike, I ain’t no monkey but I know what I like” and I’ll walk out of the room and they’ll say ‘Wow, he’s a genius. No one’s as deep as Conan…’

I always liked that song and was extremely happy with the version I heard Neko Case do at Club Congress in 2005. It was Neko Case’s first show of the tour after having spent time recording in Tucson. The song was played toward the end of the set when it was getting a little stuffy thanks to a toasty May night in the desert so they opened the side door to the right of the stage. The trains and buses that could be heard from the station next to the club added something to the performance and I remember the song being a little slower than this version, from her Live from Austin release recorded on Austin City Limits in 2003.

I made two sets of Russian nesting dolls for Mother’s Day. It’s best for me to do things with a deadline or I’ll never finish them. If I had more time, there are a lot of little details I would have added that probably would have ruined them.
